AFCON PROFILE

Three worldwide industry leaders joined forces to create the Advanced Frigate Consortium, or AFCON. This alliance, which builds upon the relationship established during the Spanish Navy's F-100 and Norwegian New Frigate programs, was formed to provide international navies with state of the art frigates and corvettes at affordable prices.

IZAR, the Spanish Navy's prominent shipyard, and Bath Iron Works (BIW) — a General Dynamics Company and the United States Navy's premier surface combatant shipyard, teamed with Lockheed Martin Naval & Electronic Surveillance Systems (LM NE&SS), a world leader in the design and manufacture of advanced combat systems, to form AFCON.

      Bath Iron Works
Bath Iron Works, a subsidiary of General Dynamics, is a leader in surface combatant design and construction. General Dynamics has leading market positions in shipbuilding and marine systems, land and amphibious combat systems, information systems, and business aviation.

      IZAR
Main focus of IZAR is design, construction, and integration of warships. With 270 years experience in design and construction of naval vessels, IZAR is fully owned by the Spanish Ministry for Industry with full Government support and guarantees. IZAR has developed a new state-of-the art production system employing what is termed as integrated construction that reduces labor requirements and guarantees a shorter delivery time as well as significant price improvement.

      Lockheed Martin
The world's premier supplier of shipboard fixed phased array radars and advanced proven combat systems. A leader in the development of first class naval surface combatant systems, using that experience to define the surface combatants of the 21st century. As the U.S. Navy's premier combat system integrator, Lockheed Martin develops combat systems specifications, defines system interfaces, integrates and tests the entire system. Life-cycle engineering is prominent throughout the process.

The purpose of the Consortium is to offer affordable Aegis Surface Combatant Solutions. With this consortium of strategic partners, AFCON offers more breadth, more depth, and more value.
